Atticus the Weary Showman

There was a time when Atticus stood at the center of every performance, cloak swirling behind him as he welcomed each new wonder to the stage. He knew every act by heart, every performer by name, and every note of the carousel's song.
The years have softened him. The spotlight no longer calls to him as it once did.
Now Atticus prefers the edges of the tent, watching from the shadows as the next generation takes their turn beneath the lights. He still straightens a crooked ribbon when no one is looking. Still ensures every performer finds their mark. Still lingers until the last lantern is extinguished.
Atticus no longer leads the performance. He watches instead, content to stand just beyond the glow of the lanterns. The applause belongs to others now.
It is enough to know the show goes on.
